Bridge at Rookery Hill

Private road bridge over gulley in Ashtead Park. Probably early 1880s; recently
rebuilt. Portland stone and cast iron with abutments of stock brick; deck now
carried on reinforced concrete floor. Single span, with cast-iron girders carried
at each end on large cast-iron brackets supported by short semi-columns with
carved capitals which are attached to the return faces of broad banded pilasters
of ashlar at the corners of the abutments, and dentilled cornices and balustraded
parapets.
