at Maddox farm
GV II
Shelter shed and cowhouse, now chicken house and store. Probably late C18 and
C19. Timber frames on brick plinths, with weatherboard cladding and red tile
roofs. Long linear plan on north-south axis, the cowhouse at the north end. The
shelter shed is a low 6-bay open-fronted building with chamfered stone
stylobates to the posts of the right-hand half, brick stylobates to those of the
southern half, angle-braces to the arcade plate, weatherboard cladding to the
south end and rear, and some hayracks inside. The 3-bay cowhouse, which is
slightly higher and wider, has a central door with hand-made strap-hinges, and a
small 6-pane fixed window to the right. The interior has a machine-sawn queen-
strut roof.
