Later C18 refacing of C14/C15 timber framed building. 3 storeys painted brick
or more likely mathemetical tile facing to upper floors which overhang ground
floor on deep plaster cove. Narrow moulded wood cornice and plain parapet
with stone coping. No 56 has 2 flush framed sashes, no glazing bars, on 2nd
floor and a Cl9 canted bay window on 1st floor. No 58 has one flush framed
sash and small casement on 2nd floor, tripartite sash and single sash on 1st
floor with glazing bars intact. Across ground floor a pair of early Cl9 shop
fronts, No 56 in original state with 10 pane window, glazed and panelled door,
in thin pilaster frame. No 58 shop has been altered but retains pilaster
frame. Behind the front of No 58 the original timber framework, showing a
double overhang, has been exposed. Some C17/early Cl6 panelling.
Nos 50 to 58 (even) & No 64 form a group with Nos 37 to 51 (odd).
