Built c1920 as memorial to fallen of Great War; later 1939-1945 inscription.
War memorial in form of horse trough and drinking fountain. The memorial is mainly of concrete. A rectangular cistern with heavy lid, on which there is a metal sword, is supported over trough. To L (away from church) bowl of drinking fountain is built in to ogee support. Inscription in capitals (facing road), "The Great War 1914-1918, 1939-1945, This memorial is erected by the grateful Village of Norton, to commemorate the names of its faithful sons, who fought and died for England and Liberty".
An unusual war memorial design, providing practical benefit, rather than pure symbolic memorial. Group value with church and lychgate opposite, and with listed building to N.
