Marker stone on road side of eastern parapet wall. “Mynydd Islwyn Highway District M.R. 1880”. The “M.R.” might mean Monmouthshire Railway as the company owned the canal and would have had a maintenance responsibility for the structure. The Monmouthshire Railway amalgamated with the Great Western Railway in 1880.
