History

Early C19 lofted outbuilding, possibly incorporating an earlier building, the original functions were apparently an outside kitchen at lower end, coach-house in centre and possibly a stable at upper end. Marked on 1844 Tithe Map.

Exterior

Whitewashed rubble stone with slate roof. Two storeys, the upper loft with three tilting 9-pane windows under eaves. Ground floor has outside kitchen to left, with cambered headed small window with stone voussoirs, and depressed-arched doorway with stone head in two ashlar pieces, and chamfered surround. Door head may be early C18. Centre broad opening with flattened arch and stone voussoirs. To right, ledged door and shuttered 2-light window, both with stone voussoirs. At right end is rear wall of pigsty addition, lower, with slate roof. Curved NE angle. Two sties with slab-lintel doors and rubble-walled yards on W side.

Interior

Left end has large fireplace beam for lost wicker hood, and two oak ceiling beams. One beam has thin hollow and ogee mouldings on one side, C17 or early C18, perhaps re-used. Copper and bread oven in end wall.
