Monument of c1840 to Sarah Maia Hughes of Castell-du, in large earlier C19 iron-railed enclosure.
Enclosure is L-plan with spearhead iron railings, scrolls below top bar and urn stanchions. On S side, to right, is gate with scrolled arched overthrow, missing some decorative detail. Within the enclosure are three monuments, only one of architectural interest. This is to Sarah Maria Hughes of Castell-du, (d1840) and is a large sandstone square sarcophagus with slate inset plaques. Above is cornice, and then pyramidal large base for a big sandstone urn. The other two monuments are to Sarah Hughes (d 1865) and to William Jones of Llwynygroes (d 1887).
Listed as a good example of the railed tomb enclosure, with an unusually ornate monument.
Group value with the parish church.
