History

Known locally as the 'chain stores', suggesting that they may have stored spare chains for the balance tower. They may have had an earlier function, perhaps storing raw materials, although this is uncertain.

Exterior

Two adjoining low domed stone structures, built into the hillside, each on a rectangular plan. South-west wall of each is missing. Interiors are barrel vaults.

Restoration in progress at time of inspection (1993).

Reasons for Listing

Included for group value as part of the internationally important Blaenavon Ironworks.
