History

1975-6 magazine for ammunition storage built for Hut Encampment on Llanion Hill.

The building is fireproof, built into excavated hillside and with path in front embanked to guard against blast. The use of mass concrete and the arched side buttressing are structurally interesting. The building was designed to hold either 3 million ball and blank cartridges, or 1200 full barrels of powder (or 4,500 half barrels). It cost รบ1197.

Exterior

Mass concrete construction, single storey with gabled slate roof and four big arched buttresses each side, linking to surrounding retaining wall. N front has lean-to porch with side entry. S end has roundel window.

Front wall with gateway continued W from surrounding wall of Main Magazine, but in concrete.

Interior

Interior tunnel-vaulted in brick.
