Uploader's Comments

The gun displayed on the roof is from Popton Fort and is an 18 lber version of the three 32 lbers originally installed. The cast iron, smooth bore, muzzle loading, gun, is of a pattern designed by Maj Gen Sir Thomas Blomefield, Inspector of Artillery at Woolwich Arsenal in 1780. This example was cast around 1812 - 1816 by Samuel Walker and Co of Rotherham, who produced a third of all guns used for British Service in the Napoleonic Wars of 1790 to 1815. (Photo Oct 2010).
