An old photograph of circa 1870-80 shows a classical 2-column porch, and 12-pane sashes to ground and first floors. Slate terrace in front had steps down to street, now infilled, and cast-iron bollards and rails acccidentally destroyed 1990.
Mid C19 large inn with extensive outbuildings. Main hotel is 3-storey 3-window building fronting onto a slate-paved terrace. To each side are low 2-storey ranges, that to left with archway to rear courtyard, that to right plain 4-window range also fronting onto a terrace. Rear court has L-plan range of outbuildings on S and W sides.
Main building has whitened roughcast front with some raised painted stucco dressings, added in late C19, half-hipped roof and yellow brick end stacks. Late C19 4-pane sashes to upper floors with stucco hoodmoulds to square second floor windows, stucco labels to large first floor windows and slate sills. Ground floor has late C19 canted bay windows with 2-4-2-pane sashes and centre 6-panel door with margin-glazed overlight. Large late C19 timber open porch, similar to that on Plough Hotel, Emlyn Square, with chamfered piers, nogged cornice and stained glass top-lights.
Range to right is lower, roughcast, with slate roof and 2 brick stacks. Four sashes to upper floors with late C19 raised labels. Ground floor mostly altered, window to left and 3 to right, the centre one formerly a door, the end one broader than the others. Matching stucco labels.
Range to left is small with 2 four-pane sashes over carriage entry and small shopfront. Shopfront, to left, has simple later C19 timber pilaster and fascia framing, 2-pane window and door. L-plan service range behind whitewashed, with slate roofs; single storey adjoining entrance arch, rising to 2 on S side, with corner hipped-roofed range and louvred lantern. A 2-storey range returns N.
