She was the daughter of General the Hon Henry Compton Cavendish, 3rd son of the 1st Earl of Burlington, and wife of John Frederick Vaughan, 2nd Earl Cawdor MP for Pembrokeshire from 1841 - 1860. Arms: Presented within a shield, to better show the pictures, instead of the more formal lozenge correct for a lady. The black background to the sinister side of the hatchment, though, is specific to a deceased wife. Blazonry: Quarterly, 1st, Or, a harts bead cabossed sable attired gules, for Calder; 2nd, Gyronny of eight or and sable, for Campbell; 3rd, Argent a lymphad oars in action sable, for Lorne ; 4th, Per fess azure and gules a cross or, for Lort. In the 16th century the Calder heiress of the Thanes of Cawdor married Sir John Campbell, son of the 2nd Earl of Argyll, and was ancestor of the Earls of Cawdor.
