Probably late C17, contemporary with major enlargement of the farmhouse. The barn appears to have been enlarged one bay southwards to provide a stable and also enlarged at rear.
A large barn ranging north-south and standing at the east side of the front courtyard which is the presumed original farmyard of the house. The modern farmyard is to its rear, further east. The west elevation (facing the farmhouse) is a long wall in weather-boarded square-panel timber framing on a plinth wall except for the right bay which is entirely in axe-dressed stonework. (The other timber-framed side wall of the original barn is now internal.) Doors and hatches in the timber-framed part of the barn and a lean-to shed hatch, door and ventilation slit in the stonework. The north and south gable ends are in similar stonework with doors. At rear (east) is a low wall in similar stonework with door and window openings. Slate roof with tile ridge and tile verge; the east slope including that over the additional part forms an unbroken catslide roof of impressive size.
The original timber-framed barn is of four bays with a lofted stone-built bay at south, the latter said to have been added as a stable but is now a byre. Informal sheds, pens and other rooms beneath the catslide roof along the east side.
A fine barn and the central unit in a fine early farmyard group of three buildings comprising house, barn and cartshed.
