This former brewery building retains its traditional long, low profile and is a significant addition to the streetscape. The building is a tangible link to the industrial past of this area of Perth, which is now mainly residential or light industry in nature.
The 1st Edition Ordnance Survey Map depicts this area as having breweries, although brewing was not one of the main industries in Perth. Gas works were situated to the South. Most of the industrial buildings in the area have since been demolished, leaving this 97 Canal Street as an important survivor.
