Circa 1960 incorporating 19th century wrought iron panels. 2 pairs of fine, well-detailed gatepiers and gates sited at the E entrance to Candacraig House policies.
OUTER GATES: vehicular entrance with large square-section ashlar piers, each on deep base with carved panels to shaft and reduced flat cope probably base of missing finial. Elegant decorative wrought iron gates.
INNER GATES: pedestrian gateway with square-section ashlar piers on deep base with fielded shaft and cushion cope. E (inner) face with 2 fielded panels divided by horizontal cast bronze panel depicting Bacchanalian scene. 2-leaf decorative ironwork gates.
Both sets of gates incorporate good quality materials brought to Candacraig by a member of the Wallace family after the destruction of his house in Park Lane, London during the Second World War. Under the guidance of Mr Wallace, the welding was carried out by the Drumoak Smithy, and the outer piers were surmounted by a pair of French lead roe deer, sadly no longer in position. No longer a well used route, this exit would originally have led across estate land to Poldullie Bridge and on to Bellabeg. The outer gates link to the boundary wall of Dovecot Cottage which was formerly part of the estate, and boasts a fine 17th century dovecot.
