Possibly later 18th century in origin with later alterations. Near square-plan walled garden (approximately 10,000m?) with chamfered corner to SW. Red brick inner linings in part. No remains of formal layout.
Paxton House Estate A Group comprises 'Boundary Walls, Railings & Gatepiers', 'Bridge', 'Dene Cottage', 'The Dower House', 'Entrance comprising South Lodge, East Lodge, Quadrant Walls, Piers & Entrance Screen', 'Garden Cottage', 'Ice House', 'North Lodge & West Lodge', 'Park Walls, Railings & Gatepiers', 'Paxton House', 'Walled Garden' - see separate list entries. Set within the boundaries of the INVENTORY site. A large walled garden to the N of and still associated with Paxton House. The 1857 OS map shows the garden's original formal layout, with 2 intersecting paths forming 4 separate compartments. According to the INVENTORY, the garden probably originates from the 1760s since, as noted by Alan Tait, it is mentioned in a 'Survey of Mensuration of Mason Work' in 1767. In use as a grazing area 1999.
