Later-late 19th century. Square-plan, 3 stage lectern dovecot. Cement harled brick, with red sandstone strip quoins, window dressings and 1st stage, concrete slab rat courses, coping and cills. Round-arched arcade with impost detail to 1st stage, rat course above; window openings to N and E of 2nd stage, 3 flight holes to base of that to E, rat course above; walls built up to all but S elevation of 3rd stage, crenellated parapet.

Statement of Interest

The imposing Doonside Dovecot is set in the walled garden on the Doonside Estate. It is of particularly unusual design, being raised on a red sandstone arcade, with the main dovecot above. The 1st Edition OS map would appear to show Doonside steading to the W of its current position, with a square structure (possibly the dovecot) in the centre of the courtyard; whereas the 2nd Edition map shows the steading has been rebuilt, in its current position, slightly to the E, suggesting that perhaps the dovecot predates the existing steading.
