Late 19th century with alterations. 3-storey and attic; 3-bay; terraced commercial building with advanced shopfront at ground floor. Symmetrical Renaissance design with corniced 1st floor windows, pedimented dormers and pilasters to principal (S) elevation. Polished ashlar principal elevation. Band course joining lintels of 2nd floor windows forms frieze below moulded eaves cornice. Moulded architraves to 1st and 2nd floor windows; those to 2nd floor have bracketed cills.
S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: advanced shopfront with ashlar surround, including flanking semi-rusticated pilaster strips with fascia brackets above and dentilled cornice. Late 20th century recessed entrance and large flanking display windows. Pilaster with modillioned cornice at corner of right return; semi-rusticated section of wall to right. Balcony formed over projecting section of ground floor; geometric cast-iron balustrade incorporating overlapping circle motif; square-plan piers with recessed panels and moulded coping flanking at angles. Regular fenestration, window to each bay, to 1st and 2nd floors; semi-rusticated pilaster to left. Pair of rectangular dormers above.
N ELEVATION: coursed stugged sandstone and partially harled extension.
2-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof; felted dormers. Ashlar and coursed sandstone gablehead stack with moulded cornice to W.
INTERIOR: not inspected (1998).
The fascia brackets date from 1921 when the shopfront was renewed by R H Motion.
