18th century with later additions and alterations. 2-storey, 3-bay, originally rectangular-plan house with 20th century, full-height, near square-plan tower at rear; projecting single storey ancillary structure adjoined to side (SE), forming L-plan; separate range adjoined to NW. House: whitewashed harl to front; painted margins; plain harl to sides and rear; flush cills throughout.
NE (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: boarded timber door centred at ground; single windows at both floors flanking entrance (later enlarged at 1st floor). Single storey ancillary structure projecting to outer left.
SW (REAR) ELEVATION: projecting tower off-set to left of centre with crenellated parapet. Single windows at both floors recessed to right. Single storey ancillary structure adjoined to outer right.
Plate glass and 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof to front, pantiles at rear; stone-coped skews; cast-iron rainwater goods. Coped apex stacks to SE and NW; various circular cans.
INTERIOR: not seen 1999.
ANCILLARY STRUCTURE: harled. NE (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: gable end with 2-leaf, boarded timber garage door at centre. INTERIOR: not seen 1999. Pantiled roof.
BOUNDARY WALLS: rubble-coped, harled walls partially enclosing site. Timber gate.
The lower range adjoined to the right (itself dated '1738') is now listed separately - see 'Coldingham, School Road, The Barn'. May have originally been thatched.
