Dated 1815. Cream sandstone. Classical market cross comprising 3-stage, stepped circular-plan base beneath square-plan pedestal with splayed base and moulded cornice (inscription on N face; date on E face). Tapering shaft with moulded base and capital; surmounting square-plan abacus supporting circular-plan moulding and square block with carved crest to N face; sundials to E, S and W; urn-shaped finial.
Noted in the OS Name Book as "...a modern erection...supposed to occupy the site of the ancient cross." A late but good example of a market cross, prominently set in the centre of Coldingham. The carving on the N face of the square block is the crest of the Earl of Home. The inscription on the N face of the pedestal reads 'Erected by the Right Honourable Alexander, Earl of Home, Lord Dunglass and Coldingham.'
