An essentially intact example of a relatively rare building type, particularly notable for being one of the earliest, post-war equivalents of the more common, pre-war, octagonal-plan bandstands - see separate list entries. The retention of the contemporary amphitheatre is also of note. Original plans show a scrolled motif centred above the canopy and further finials and decorative brattishing on the roof (missing 1999). The plans also show 2 pay boxes once flanked the bandstand ) not evident 1999).
