Earlier 19th century with later additions and alterations. 2-storey with attic, 4-bay rectangular-plan cottage with single storey, lean-to addition to right. Harled; pink sandstone ashlar margins; sandstone mullions to later bipartites; flush cills.
S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: timber panelled door with integral fanlight in bay off-set to left of centre; single window aligned above. Bipartite window at ground in bay to outer left; single window above. Single windows at both floors in bay to right of entrance. Bipartite window at ground in subsequent bay to right; single window above; modern sliding glazed door in lean-to addition to outer right.
W (SIDE) ELEVATION: 2-bay gable-end with single window at 1st floor off-set to right of centre; small attic light off-set to left.
N (REAR) ELEVATION: small stair (?) window off-set to left of centre. Single windows at both floors in subsequent bay to right.
E (SIDE) ELEVATION: gable-end with full-width lean-to addition projecting at ground; small attic light off-set to right of centre.
Predominantly 4-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows; modern rooflights to lean-to addition. Grey slate roof; stone-coped skews; stone ridging. Corniced, brick-built ridge and apex stacks; various circular cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.
INTERIOR: not seen 1998.
BOUNDARY WALL: rubble wall enclosing site to front.
Marked on the 1862 Ordnance Survey map as the 'Waterloo Arms Inn' and originally part of the same complex - see separate list entry for the Waterloo Arms Hotel. Now a private residence, the cottage is in separate ownership and remains fundamentally intact.
