Description

Early and later 19th century. Earlier single storey, 3-bay, rectangular-plan crowstepped cottage, and later single storey with attic, 3-bay, rectangular-plan house forming T-plan. Cottage harled with stone cills, house squared and snecked rubble with ashlar margins, and harl to sides and rear.

COTTAGE:

SW ELEVATION: symmetrical. Door to centre with windows in flanking bays.

HOUSE:

SE (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: symmetrical. Slated porch on narrow cast-iron columns and door with plate glass fanlight to centre, windows in flanking bays with piended dormer windows over.

NW ELEVATION: adjoining cottage. Flat-roofed porch with door on return to right to centre bay, cottage projecting from off-centre left and windows to outer bays; window to centre above breaking eaves into catslide dormer.

8-, 9- and 12-pane glazing patterns in timber sash and case windows, except left bay of cottage with top-opening timber window. Clay pantiles to cottage, grey slates to house. Coped harl and ashlar stacks with full complement of cans, polygonal to house. Plain bargeboarding and overhanging eaves to house.

Statement of Interest

Property of Wemyss Estate Trustees. Appears on 1st OS as 'Fantasy'. In 1875, 'Fantasy Lodge' was occupied by James Michie, forester.
