Building 1819. 3-storey and mansard, 12-bay (7 bays to Broughton Street elevation, 5 bays to Broughton Place elevation), terraced corner tenement with later projecting shops at ground (see notes). Base course, fascia band to shops, , moulded architraves and cornice to bays at 1st floor, cill band at 2nd, corniced eaves, pedimented dormers.
W (BROUGHTON STREET) ELEVATION: 15 bays at ground with stylised pilasters, recessed shop entrance in 4th and 7th bay with 3 flanking large shop windows, multi-pane windows above spanning 7 bays; timber panelled common stair door with large fanlight to 8th bay, to right 3-bay shop with recessed entrance and flanking large shop windows; to outer right 3 large shop windows; corner shop entrance. Regular fenestration to floors above.
S (BROUGHTON PLACE) ELEVATION: 8 bays at ground, recessed shop entrance to 5th and 7th bays, large shop windows to bay remaining; regular fenestration above with penultimate bay to left blocked at 1st and blinded at 2nd for symmetry.
Timber sash and case windows with 6-pane upper and 2-pane lower glazing, grey slates, wide wall head stacks with terracotta cans, skews.
INTERIOR: not seen 1998
Originally listed with Nos 2-34 (even Nos) Broughton Place and 89 and 91 Broughton Street, these numbers do not appear to exist. Originally St James Episcopal Church and School, school moved to Inverleith in 1888.
