Earlier to mid 19th century with later alterations. 2 storey symmetrical 3-bay, with single storey single bay wing to right, rectangular-plan plain classical house pitch-roofed, square plan, single storey laundry house at rear. Polished ashlar sandstone (stugged sandstone to sides, rear and laundry) with polished ashlar dressings. Base course; eaves course and cornice. Raised, painted and moulded margins to windows with cornices to ground floor windows; strip quoins to rear.
E (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: raised pilastered doorpiece with plain frieze, cornice and blocking course; steps, flanked by low walls leading to deep-set 2-leaf timber panelled door with rectangular fanlight; window at 1st floor above. Window at each floor in each bay flanking. Window to wing to right.
W (REAR) ELEVATION: symmetrical 3-bay with single-bay wing to left. Blank connecting block, with small barred window to right flank, from centre bay to laundry block: laundry block set at right angles with window in each gabled end and decorative octagonal stack to each apex; (blinded) window to W face; stair window to main block above. Window at each floor in each bay flanking. Window with small opening to right flank in wing to left.
S (SIDE) ELEVATION: gabled end wall with window at each floor to outer right; gablehead stack above.
N (SIDE) ELEVATION: (blocked) door in bay to centre of single storey wing at ground; replacement door, set to right; window, set to left; blank gable end wall above with redundant gablehead stack.
4- and 8-pane (single 2-pane to rear) timber sash and case windows with casements to laundry; grey slate roof; slate to laundry and connecting block; modern roofing to wing; ashlar coped stack (repaired) to S, redundant to N; coped skews to main house and to laundry; bracketed skewputts to laundry; cast-iron rainwater goods with some uPVC replacements to rear.
INTERIOR: not seen, 1997.
BOUNDARY WALLS AND GATEPIERS: square-plan sandstone piers with string course, cornice and square cap; ashlar sandstone walls with curved ashlar cope.
The interest of this building lies in little altered form and the survival of the well-proportioned and intact laundry house to the rear.
