Circa 1820 with later additions and alterations. 2-storey with attic, 3-bay tenement with shop at ground, terminating terrace; sited on ground rising to SE. Painted line-render to NW and SE elevations with painted brick full-height addition to rear. Base course, quoin strips.
NW (WEST PORT) ELEVATION: modern part-glazed door to centre at ground with window at 1st floor above. Shop window at ground of bay to right with window at 1st floor above. Later stop-chamfered bipartite window with ashlar mullion; window at 1st floor above.
SE ELEVATION: full-height platformed addition projecting from bay to centre and to right with door to tenement.
Plate glass timber sash and case windows; fixed-pane plate glass window to ground of bay to right, NW elevation. Slate roof with brick coped wallhead stack to SW and mutual stack to NE. 3-light canted dormers to each outer bay, NW. 2-pane 19th century skylight to SE.
INTERIOR: not seen fully, 1996.
BOUNDARY WALLS: whinstone rubble wall to rear.
Buildings appear on this site from 1823. The grouping of this particular building with the adjacent Nos 37 and 39 West Port is very similar to the arrangement in 1823.
