The house does not appear on a map until 1858. The canted windows at ground of flanking bays of SW elevation appear to date from mid to later 19th century. 3rd edition OS map (1897) shows that there was an addition to the rear, L-planned and projecting from centre. This no longer exists, 1995. The name, Old Bridge Road refers to a bridge which was built in 1738 which crossed Ettrick Water from the brae-face at Wellwood. Part of it fell in 1746 and it was completely demolished by a flood in 1777.
