Description

Cottage, situated at junction of old military road and trackway. Uncertain date; possibly 18th century. Whitewashed rubble with battered walls; corrugated iron roof. Originally 4 bays (arranged

3 with centre door and end stacks plus another doorway bay to right hand); secondary lower and recessed 2-bay addition to left hand gable with some massive boulders incorporated, gable head built in blockwork (and so possibly piended originally). Boarded timber doors, timber-framed windows barred presumably after 1947.

Statement of Interest

Rented from Blackmount Estate since 1947 by the "Ladies? Scottish Climbing Club". Shown on 1870 OS map as Tigh Craige-duibhe (ie Blackrock Cottage).
