Description

Earlier 19th century. 3-storey and attic, 3-bay tenement in irregular terrace. Tudor and classical details. Grey sandstone ashlar, base course, ground floor cornice, 1st floor cill band course, mutuled cornice at eaves.

S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: symmetrical. Central doorway with round-arched head and fanlight with radial glazing, window above at 1st and 2nd floors. Bays flanking; former shop windows at ground with wide segmental-arched heads, now blocked with 2 modern windows. Stone-mullioned tripartites at 1st floor with narrow sidelights and hoodmoulds. Stone-mullioned tripartites at 2nd floor with narrow sidelights. Piended, timber-mullioned tripartite dormers above.

W ELEVATION: adjoining 4 Wharf Street.

E ELEVATION: adjoining 8 Wharf Street.

4-pane timber sash and case windows at 2nd floor, modern replacements elsewhere. Grey slate pitched roof. Coped skews. Corniced gablehead stacks of brick with ashlar dressings.

An important component in the old Harbour front. Part of the 1-12 Wharf Street B Group.
