Description

Cast iron lamp standard dating from around 1880. Decorative moulded base and capital with foliate motifs, fluted shaft, lantern with heraldic glass and decorative crown chimney.

Statement of Interest

Former Provost's lamp previously located in front of 10 Hill Street which formed a pair with a lamp standard previously located at 5 Panmurefield Road (now removed and current location uknown, 2019). The lamps originate from the Queen's Hotel, Nethergate, Dundee (John Young and Andrew Meldrum, 1878), and were later erected at the Majestic Cinema (formerly Her Majesty's Theatre), Seagate. They were bought by Monifieth Burgh with a further pair (one listed at 50 Hill Street, the other destroyed) following a fire at the cinema during the Second World War.
