Description

Mid 19th century. Symmetrical 2-storey 3-bay house with mutual gable to E and later M-roofed addition to rear. Squared and snecked sandstone rubble, ashlar dressings.

N ELEVATION: 3-bay; corniced ashlar doorcase at centre, flanked by corniced canted windows with blocking course; windows to all bays at 1st floor.

W ELEVATION: 4-bay; 2 bays to left gabled with apex stack; windows to both floor of outer left bay and small window in gable; inner left bay blank. Inner right bay with windows to both floors, outer right bay with window at ground.

S ELEVATION: 5-bay. 4 bay harled addition to left, M-roofed with gablehead stacks; left bays blank, right bays with irregularly disposed windows (evidence of considerable alterations). Bay to right with single windows.

4-pane timber sash and case windows (plate glass to canted bays). Grey slates; ashlar skews; coped harled stacks.

INTERIOR: not seen 1992.

Statement of Interest

The ground to the rear has been excavated to accommodate the house. Attached to Allerley Brae E cottage (see separate listing).
