Early 18th century, long 2-storey harled storehouse. Original
rear and end gable walls, the front (south) elevation part
masked by projecting modern 3-gabled extension. 3-bay narrow
east gable with centre door. 3 long narrow rear window/vents
with chamfered ashlar architraves, various blocked entrances
and later fenestration. Boulder footings; steeply pitched
crowstepped gables with cavetto skewputts; corrugated iron roof. Interior; intervening floor removed and no original interior
features survive.
Store originally built to house agricultural rents in kind,
mainly grain. Easter Ross has an unusual number of these
"renthouses" or "girnals", usually sited by the shore to
facilitate sea transport to markets elsewhere.
With an overall length of around 160' this is the longest of
these buildings.
