Matthews and Laurie, Inverness, 1865-7. 2-storey range
composed of 2 symmetrical 3-bay blocks set at right angles
to another. Squared tooled grey granite with polished pale
granite ashlar dressings and margins; harled rear with
ashlar margins.
High Street front; symmetrical 3-bay dwelling abutting
gable end of banking house; centre door with pilastered
corniced doorpiece; flanking tripartites and bipartites
in outer bays abutting similar fenestration in slightly
advanced gable of adjoining bank. Bank, The Square; centre
door with similar doorpiece as dwelling; flanking bipartites.
Blocked cills to all windows; 2-pane glazing; long/short
quoins to angles; bandcourse encircles range, linking
doorpiece cornices; granite brackets to eaves cornice;
end, rear and ridge stacks with 1 surviving flue battery
with 6 tall cans with flared anthemion decorated
caps; piended slate roof. Rear centre stair windows
to dwelling house.
