Description

School in style of A Lindsay Miller and presumably built soon after Education Act of 1882 (additional tall range to SW, fronting Westcoates Road, of lesser interest). To Brownside Road, long single-storey near-symmetrical front with outer gables (distinctive framed roundel in each gable-head); square tower at the left hand gable is either incomplete or reduced in height; windows mullioned and/or transomed, ornamented dormer heads cut through eaves. Squared rubble, ashlar dressings, sash windows with decorative square lights above transomes; slate roofs with red ridging tiles. On each flank, a doorway with dormer head and flanking windows in symmetrical arrangement. Well preserved run of decorative cast-iron railings, with gates and (masonry) gatepiers. Added range early 20th century in appearance, stone-built, mostly 3 storey, front twin-gabled and with tower.
