Description

1902-5, J R Rhind. Classical branch library, single storey, 5 central bays, prominent entrance bay at S, lower entrance at N. Ashlar frontage.

MAIN ENTRANCE: arched doorway under full-height paired Ionic columned and segmentally pedimented doorpiece supporting a sculpture group of a woman reading to children.

LIBRARY HALL: 3 centre arched windows flanked by Ionic columns, (paired outer) rising from cill course and supporting balustraded entablature. Flanking bays each with corniced and architraved window with decorative oculus over. Square domed and finialled central cupola.

SECONDARY ENTRANCE: architraved with decorative oculus over supported by 2 putti.

INTERIOR: domed library hall in coffered ceiling with, 4 columned screens at either end.
