Cemetery on hillside site opened 1840; LODGE AND GATEPIERS to Springburn Road by John Stephen (of Scott Stephen and Gale), 1839; Egypto-Greek; all ashlar, lodge is rectangular-plan and elaborately detailed, like a small temple; block-pedimented end faces roadside, pair columns in antis flanking doorway; urn finial; W gable similarly treated but with window; pilastraded flanks; gatepiers are painted, square, each channelled at base with ramped panels to faces, urn finials raised on square pedestals; modern iron gates and railings. Decorative cast-iron gateway to Keppochill Road. Extensive series of stone MONUMENTS, some of high quality; monument to martyrs of 1820 Rising listed separately. Other monuments include; William Leiper, dated 1867, erected by his pupils, French Gothic design and presumably by his son William Leiper also commemorated here; monument to Mossmans, sculpors; Keppie family monument.
