Description

Bruce and Hay, circa 1885. 3-storey and attic 5-by 3-by 5-by
8-bay gusset ashlar Renaissance block. Ground floor altered.
3-bay frontage string course, broken pediment. Arched window
rises through 1st and 2nd floors flanked by bipartites with
scroll motifs on 1st floor. Main cornice, Central blind
dormer in Dutch Renaissance gable with 2 niches flanked by 2
tall slate-hung corner towers with consoled Dutch dormers.
Southern tower has pedimented intermediate detail, a wooden
bellcote and winged angel.
Govan Road elevation: 5 bays of large bipartites with
pilaster mullions on 1st and 2nd floors, banded masonry
dividing windows on 1st floor, paired pilasters on 2nd floor.
Cornice, parapet, slate roof and 2 tall pyramid roofs at
angles, 1 with dormer. Paisley Road West elevation similar
but has pediments with carved tympana over 1st floor and
dormers in both pyramid roofs. Rubble rear, 3-bays, with
paired and tripartite windows and 2 stacks.

Statement of Interest

Known as Park or Angel Buildings. Commercial. Marks an

ancient crossroads.
