Peter Nicholson 1813-18. Classical 3-storey and basement
33-bay terrace. Ashlar front, channelled on ground floor.
Doric portico, with Clyde Shipping Co brass plate on doors,
in 6 advanced central bays with 3-light windows and a narrow
window on either side of door. 7 giant Doric pilasters rise
through 1st and 2nd floors. Doric entablature and pediment.
3 original half-pilastered doorways on either side of the
central block. 1st floor windows lowered through the string
course, with cast-iron balconies left of the central block.
No 84 retains 6-pane upper sash windows on 1st floor and has
lengthened ground floor windows.
Pavilion, No 65, converted for Clydesdale Bank in 1903 by
Baird and Thomson. New aedicule entrances at front and on
corner, both with polished granite Ionic columns. An extra
window in the ground floor. 5-bay continuation to South
Portland Street.
Cornice, Slate roof. Ridge stacks. Rubble rear with
projecting curved stair turrets.
Cast iron railings of various patterns front basement. Some
interior work survives, eg at No 78.
