Description

Dated 1894. Scots Baronial with traditional detailing
gusset building, 2-storey and attic, red coursed rubble.
Ground floor public house, modern frontage to Govan
Road, 1st floor central shallow canted window with
flanking bipartites. Broken pedimented dormer window
under stack. Scrolled skewputts, slate roof. Elevation
to Burleigh Street similar but with intact simple ground
floor, advanced central tripartite window and strapworked
dormer. W elevation brick. E Elevation: Jacobean
stack, scalloped skewputts, arrow cross-slit. Depressed
arched and columned door with elaborate cushion capital
and carved dog. 1st floor window under broken
pedimented armorial panel dated 1894. Door to spiral
stair in semi-circular staircase becoming octagonal at top
with small windows and port-hole. Sculptured cat clings
to cornice. Conical slate roof with ball finial.
Pub interior mainly altered.

Statement of Interest

Public House, with upper floors formerly the Govan

Conservative Association Halls. Lively carving is similar

to that on 816-8 Govan Road by Derwent Wood and Johan

Keller.
