James Miller, 1930. 6-storey modern classical bank and
offices on corner. 5 x 2 bays Portland stone, marble-clad
plinth. Casement windows with metal glazing bars. Fluted
stylised Corinthian pilasters rising from ground to 1st
floor; tall banking hall windows, 1st floor windows separated
by bronze relief frieze. Full-height bronze doorpiece with
antefixae and acroterion. Low relief angle panels at 1st and
6th floor frieze level; dentil band, 1st floor cornice; plain
2nd floor windows; 3rd floor cill band; 3rd to 6th floor
windows in tall recesses divided by pilaster strips and
separated horizontally by bronze relief panels between
floors; main dentil cornice. Low entrance to N in West Nile
Street.
INTERIOR: fluted pilastered banking hall. Marble-lined entry
to upper floors at 98 West George Street.
Built as Commercial Bank; now (1988) Royal Bank.
