Description

W Hunter McNab (Leiper and McNab), circa 1904-5. Free
classical commercial building. Ashlar. 6 storeys
(basement to Wellington Street); 3 x 7 bays. Arched
ground floor on cill band with 3-light windows to
St Vincent Street, 2-light to Wellington Street, arched
and pilastered double doorpiece with recessed, double
arched entrances. Bipartites with column mullions 1st
floor, except outer bays St Vincent Street shouldered
windows set in panels 2nd. Giant Roman Doric columns
supported on corbels rise through 3rd and 4th floors.
Keyblocked arched recesses to centre bay St Vincent
Street and all bays to Wellington Street at 3rd floor.
Simple bipartites in attic. Sash and case windows with
glazing bars; 8 panes to upper sash, 2 to lower.
Projecting main modillion cornice. 6th floor bipartite
windows separated by pilasters. Die parapet. No 68 St
Vincent Lane linked by arched gangways to No 89
Wellington Street.
