Robert Thomson, circa 1870 with later 5th and 6th floors
(1880s?). 6-storey, 5-bay commercial building; modern
shops at ground floor. Polished ashlar with vermiculated
quoins to 1st and 2nd floors with inset sculpted masks
between floors, segmentally pedimented doorpiece;
elaborate sculpture, granite shafts to outer colonettes
and to pilasters, sculpted frieze and tympanum with head.
All windows sash and case, plate glass; consoled,
segmentally pedimented with sculpted tympana at 1st
floor; 2nd floor floating cornices with ogee-headed panels
and sculpted heads above; 2nd floor cornice with sculpted
frieze; 3rd floor arched windows in panelled pilasters.
Consoled cornice, tripled in central bays, dentils. 4th
floor central window flanked by superimposed pilasters;
3-bay outer sections arcaded with recessed glazing; 5th
floor aediculed windows, raised and pedimented in centre.
