James Boucher, 1875. Italian Renaissance commercial building. 4 storeys with plain glazed ground floor. 3 main bays to St Enoch Square, arranged 2-3-2; 4 unequal, plain return bays to St Enoch Place. Polished ashlar, channelled between bays at 1st floor. Central entrance with keyblocked arch, consoled doorpiece, shouldered lintel, sculpted archivolt and spandrels; cornice supporting wrought-iron balcony. Ground floor mutule cornice. 1st floor pilastraded arched windows, keyblocked with sculpted imposts and fretwork spandrels; entablature with rosette frieze and console cornice. 2nd floor continuous low wrought-iron balcony; colonnaded arched windows with slim colonettes and pilasters between bays; richly sculpted spandrels; outer bays panelled piers with sculpted decoration; sculpted frieze, cornice.
3rd floor similar to 2nd with continuous recessed sculpted aprons, sculpted heads to outer piers; coupled console cornice raised in central bay with panel and rosette frieze; wrought-iron parapet. End stack with outer attached columns.
Gilded metal lettering; 'TEACHER' at eaves end, 'ESTA 1830' on brattishing above central door included in listing, but fascia lettering excluded.
