George Bell, 1897. Free classical, 5-storey commercial
building with corner public house. 4 x 8 bays with curved
corner bay. Polished red ashlar, polished granite at ground
floor. Sash and case windows, plate glass, etched glass to
public house with carved timber cills. Console brackets
flanking corner entrance and No 44 Jamaica Street, sculpted,
pedimented panels over.
ELEVATION TO JAMAICA STREET: bays arranged 1-3, canted at 2nd
and 3rd floor, corniced to each floor. Margined 1st floor
windows. Console bracketted, parapet sculpted with masks, at
2nd floor, segmentally pedimented over central canted window.
Plain upper window; sculpted frieze over canted bay. Cornice,
parapet raised in centre.
ELEVATION TO MIDLAND STREET: repeating Jamaica Street
elevation with linked canted bays. Plain outer bay as S bay
to Jamaica Street. Slate roof.
