Trench (1885-1979) was Architect Surveyor to the Metropolitan Police. Each police call box was intended to serve as a "miniature police station". There are three other listed examples of this type remaining in situ in Glasgow, at Cathedral Square (LB51059), Wilson Street (LB32803) and the Botanic Gardens (LB32515). The Buchanan Street police box was previously located at Royal Exchange Square.
