John Gordon and Thomas Baird Jr, 1893-95 (dated 1894). School, unusually, with swimming pool at lowest level. 4 storeys, symmetrical. Red ashlar, mostly rock-faced, polished dressings. Street elevation 1st and 2nd floors linked within colossal full-width architraved panel, pedimented outer pavilions set within each with giant Ionic order, plain attic storey, roofs concealed by parapets. Boys' and girls' gates at opposite ends, the former (at N) incorporated within 2-storey janitor's lodge.
Iron-railed playground walls, gatepiers.
Built for Govan Parish School Board. Not built exactly as per drawings - top floor fenestration added and gable details simplified.
