John Gordon, architect; circa 1887. Symmetrical villa; 2
storeys, attic and basements. Polished ashlar with
vermiculated rusticated quoins to ground floor; Corinthian
pilasters clasping 1st floor angles.
N facade with taller centre bay rising to attic storey.
Full-height 4-light canted windows, flank bipartites; all
architraved, mullioned and transomed. Plate glass sashes.
Continuous moulded band course over basement, ground and at 1st
floor cills and lintels. Bracketted eaves, slate roofs, box
dormers; some roof brattishing.
Polished ashlar flanks with transomed sashes. To W, steps
to single storey pilastered porch with dentil cornice and
deep plain parapet. Architraved double-leaf outer door;
vestibule door with glazed and leaded panels. Tripartite W
window with figurative leaded glass. Rear elevation with
rock-faced basement, detailed as N elevation except that bay
windows flank tripartites.
INTERIOR: generally much altered, some plaster cornices remain,
good gilded timber-lined ceiling to drawing room. Good stained
glass to porch and cupola to attic billiard room.
