Description

St Benedict's, Easterhouse, 1965, Gillespie, Kidd and Coia.

Church (No 753): Rectangular, dark grey rendering on brick (originally lighter). Copper monopitch roofs linked by glazing strips. Wallheads rise above roof.

Front Elevation: Flush porch towards L with strip glazing above and cross offset to R, under catslide from lower pitch of main roof; clasped on L by baptistry with raised monopitch roof, small angle pane window at top L; on R by Lady Chapel with raised monopitch roof higher at R. Narrow strip glazing at ground on R with single-pane window towards R at first. Glazing strip between main roof pitches notably irregular.

Side Walls: In outline reflect roof pitches. Closely spaced slender buttress strips.

Interior: not seen 1991.

Presbytery (No 755): To south east of church, in similar style but with lower and narrower roof.

Front elevation: Timber framed strip glazing between roof pitches and below eaves, some panes in strip above lower windows (1 + 2 + 2 from L). Small single-pane windows in side elevations. Rear elevation not seen.

Statement of Interest

Similar in layout to St Joseph's, Faifley Road, Clydebank.
