Description

Circa 1790; facade dismantled and re-erected by Morris and Steedman, 1976. 3-storey and attic 4-bay surviving half of former classical tenement, now facade to fast food restaurant. Droved ashlar sandstone. Set back former common stair bay to right; eaves cornice. Modern shopfront at ground; large pedimented tripartite dormer (1976).

Timber sash and case 12-pane windows. Ashlar coped skews, rebuilt stone stacks; grey slates.

INTERIOR: modern.

Statement of Interest

Listed at Grade B as a significant surviving part of the original fabric of Edinburgh's New Town, one of the most important and best preserved examples of urban planning in Britain.
