Description

Robert Burn, planned 1800. 4-storey and attic, 6-bay, terraced tenement with shops to ground. Sandstone ashlar. Base course, cill band at 1st floor, projecting cills at 2nd and 3rd.

E ELEVATION: late 19th century shopfront to left at ground, recessed entrance, timber door with fanlight. Panelled door to stair to right and further shop with door to right. Regular fenestration above with bay to left of centre blinded for symmetry.

12-pane timber sash and case glazing, grey slates, towering ashlar mutual ridge stack with terracotta cans. 3 piended slate hung dormers.

INTERIOR: not seen 1998.

Statement of Interest

Union Place and Street are part of Robert Burn's 1800 scheme for the Commissioners for the improvement of Manufacturers in Scotland (Nos 1-17 Union Place were heavily reworked in 1969).
